World number two Aryna Sabalenka is through to the semi-finals of the Madrid Open after defeating unseeded Egyptian Mayar Sherif.
The Belarusian rallied back from a set down to win their quarter-final tie 2-6 6-2 6-1 on Tuesday.
"I was just trying to keep fighting to keep playing my game and find my rhythm," said Sabalenka.
"She's a clay court specialist and I'm very happy with this win. It was a very tough one."
Although Sherif is out of the tournament, she had an impressive run in reaching the quarter-finals stage.
The 26-year-old made history as she became the first Egyptian to reach a WTA 1000 quarter-final after beating world number five Caroline Garcia in straight sets in the third round and also became the first player to take a set off Sabalenka in Madrid.
Sabalenka will next face the winner between Greek world number nine Maria Sakkari or Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu in the second quarter-final later today.
