Saka Undecided About International Future

Arsenal’s 18-year-old prodigy, Bukayo Saka, who has been revelling in a breakthrough season for the Gunners has revealed he is yet to decide on his international future.

The Anglo-Nigerian was born to Nigerian parents in England and is eligible to feature for both Nigeria and his birth country, for which he has turned out for at junior level.

The Winger has been in sensational form since breaking into the Gunners first team this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists in 15 appearances across all competitions. Recently, he has been utilised as a left-back for the club following injuries to regular left-backs, Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney.

The 18-year-old revealed he has yet to be approached by either Nigeria or England to pledge his allegiance.

"I am always thinking about it, but I haven't made a decision yet,” Saka told BBC Sport. "No-one has been in touch but when I make a decision, you will find out.”

Saka made his senior debut for the Gunners in 2018 in their Europa League match against FK Qarabag. He then went on to have his premier league debut in a 4-1 win against Fulham in January 2019 at the age of 17, becoming the first player born in 2001 to play in the English top-flight.

The pacy winger also took out time to praise his former manager, Unai Emery, for presenting him with the opportunity to take his game to the next level with the senior team.

"I have a lot of thanks to give him because he gave me so much confidence, he gave me my debut, and he kept pushing me. I am grateful to him always,” he added. "It's just something I have always dreamed of, coming up from the academy to the first team."

Saka will be looking to continue his development under new Gunners boss, and former Manchester City assistant manager Mikel Arteta and will be hoping to get a look-in on Boxing Day when the Gunners visit Bournemouth in what will be the Spaniard’s first match in charge.
