Bright Future Special School, principal Sipho Nkosi
Bright Future Special School Principal Sipho Nkosi has been confirmed dead after he was fatally wounded on Thursday afternoon.
Elijah Mhlanga, a spokesman for Basic Education, used social media to express his sorrow and pay respects to the deceased Special School principal.
“In April, a few days after the floods which affected his school he cleaned up these vases which survived the devastating rains, and gave them to me when I was at his school,” he recalled.
Sipho Nkosi, Principal of Bright Future Special School, Durban was killed this afternoon, Mhlanga confirmed.
He added: “The workshop ended yesterday and he was there.
"I have never met a guy so committed to the needs of learners with special education needs.
"He worked hard and was full of energy.
He was shot and killed while on duty today in Durban when many people were preparing to close for the holidays”.
Mhlanga has vowed to keep the gifts as a memory.
“I will keep these gifts that you presented me my brother as part of the memory.
"These pieces of art are made by learners at special institutions.
Rest in peace, my brother!
"We had planned another visit to spend more time at your school.
"I guess things have taken a nasty turn now. I am really sad”.
KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi also paid tribute to Nkosi.
“It’s so sad that Mr Sipho Nkosi, the Bright Future Special School Principal is no more shot dead this afternoon.
"I was with him from Monday until yesterday lunchtime at Umhlanga Coastlands hotel at the PYEP Indaba,” he reminisced.
