Schools Closed In Anambra Over Flooding

The Anambra State Government has shut down primary and secondary schools located in flood prone areas and those already ravaged by flooding in the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the closure on Tuesday.

In a statement through her aid Chioma Unachukwu, the Commissioner said that the closure is with immediate effect.

“I am directed to convey the Honourable Commissioner’s approval for the closure of all schools in riverine and flood-prone areas in the state with immediate effect in compliance with the already published 2021/2022 Special Academic Calendar for riverine and flood-prone areas in the state.”

Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano, the wife of the immediate past governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, had during the weekend called on the Federal government to assist communities ravaged by the natural disaster in the state.

About 12 local government areas would be affected by the closure.
