Secretariat invasion: Group urges Oyo govt to take action ag

The Ibile G-7, a socio-cultural group in Oyo, has urged the state government to take action against sponsors of the secretariat invasion which occurred on Saturday.

The group, in a statement on Monday co-signed by the Coordinator, Lanre Ogundipe and Secretary, Olajide Laniyonu called for the arrest and prosecution of the sponsors.

Allnews.ng recalls that the police had arrested suspected agitators of the Yoruba nation following the invasion of the government building on Saturday.

The suspects were reportedly making efforts to take over the State House of Assembly when they were arrested.

Meanwhile, in reaction, the group condemned the act, described it as an act of terrorism and emphasized the need to bring sponsors of the act to book no matter how influential they may be.

They equally urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant and report any suspicious persons to security agencies.

The statement partly reads: "IBILE G-7 warned that Ibadan as a city is never associated with any act of saboteurs to wage war against its kinsmen the Yorubas. Ibadan and her citizens are noted for bravery to shield Yoruba territory and protect its people and that accounted for the Fulani defeat in the Jalumi war in the eighteenth century.

"The group urged the government not to leave no stone unturned to bring those connected with the terrorism act to book no matter how highly influential. This act undermines the entire security architecture of the state.

"The perpetrators must have been deluded into believing that the war prowess of Ibadan warlords must have evaporated or gone to sleep. Ibadan and her indigenes should not be tempted to invoke the spirits of its forebears the warlords, ibadan would not succumb to any war threat ... oogun o ko wa ri (we were never conquer in any war).

"IBILE G-7 however urged inhabitants of Ibadan to remain law abiding and be vigilant to report any attempt by unscrupulous agents to the law enforcement agents."
