The Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku has met president Muhammadu Buhari over attacks by Ambazonian militants in the state.

Ishaku urged the president to establish permanent military bases along the Taraba/Cameroon border as the only means to curtail the incessant attacks.

The Ambazonian militants are Cameroonian secessionist group causing casualties when ever they cross through communities in Taraba state.

The militants killed 11 people including a traditional ruler in Manga village of Takum local government area in November.

While noting the military presence at the areas affected by the attacks, the governor said the president needs to know the need for a permanent solution.

He further said that the extension of the Kashimbilla lake which is about 6 kilometers to the Cameroonian territory has allowed easy access to Nigeria.

Ishaku explained that what is needed to secure the border is a naval base, military and air force bases.

While noting the response of the president, Ishaku said: “He understood the details of everything I discussed with him. And he was quite sympathetic. I think we are on the way to a permanent solution.”
