Gunmen have reportedly attacked Joseph’s Cathedral Church in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State leaving one security guard fatally wounded.

The incident occurred a few hours after the prayer session organised by Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State to counter the “evil” effects of the Monday’s sit-at-home order being enforced by criminals.

Soludo had said the prayer session would work against the activities of the gunmen terrorising the state and the Southeast region.

He said, “I enjoin you to pause and join in fellowship as we seek the face of God. It is expected that the conclusion of the prayer session shall mark the end of Sit- At-Home in Anambra State.”

Ikenga Tochukwu, the Public Relations Officer of Anambra Police Command said they have commenced “investigation on the shooting incident along Ekwulobia road yesterday by 10:30 pm.”

Ikenga, Deputy Superintendent of Police assured that, “Patrol has also been intensified in the area and normalcy has been restored.”

Throwing more light on how the ugly incident happened, he said the, “hoodlums along the expressway of Ekwulobia by St Patrick cathedral started shooting sporadically. Unfortunately, one of the security guards in the Church was fatally hit by a bullet and later died.”

“For us as an organization saddled with the responsibility of protection of lives and properties, this unfortunate incident is a call for more work and I can assure you that the police personnel aren’t deterred with the development.”
