Security Guard Stabbed To Death During Fight Over Woman

Police in the Sheema District of Uganda are investigating circumstances under which a security guard was brutally stabbed and killed during a fight over a woman. 

Elly Kamanye, 55, a former crime preventer, was named as the dead by Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson Martial Tumusiime.

According to police preliminary information, Kamanye was stabbed to death over the weekend while providing security at a wedding celebration in Rwengiri II village, Kigarama sub-county.

“It is alleged that at night, a misunderstanding broke out between the deceased and one Ivan Amanya over a woman. 

"The suspect armed with a panga attempted to cut the woman which prompted the deceased to intervene, but he was instead stabbed in the stomach,” Tumusiime said.

Kamanye was transported to Kabwohe Health Centre IV before being transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

“Police officers visited the scene of the crime and arrested Amanya to help with the investigation. Kamanye’s body has been handed over to the relatives for burial,” Tumusiime said.
