Security Operatives Rescue Kidnapped Herders, Recover Cattle

The Anambra State Police Command has rescued herders said to have been kidnapped in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.

It was earlier reported that some herders and cows were kidnapped in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra State last Saturday by gunmen while the herdsmen were asleep.

The Southeast Chairman of MACBAN, Gidado Siddiki, raised an alarm that 10 of their members and 300 cows were abducted by gunmen on Saturday.

The gunmen had demanded a gun and N4 million as a ransom for the release of the herders.

Anambra State police command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in an update on the attack, on Monday, said the herders have been rescued as only one herder was still missing.

In the statement, he said, “Given the development, the Police command got into joint operation with the military.

“On 24/4/2022, some of the alleged victims of abduction were seen in the bush unharmed while one of the abductees is still missing.

“The joint operatives also discovered some of the livestock in the bush.

“Furthermore, efforts are being intensified to locate the missing herders and the livestock that are still missing. Further details shall be communicated.”
