Senate Members Honour Slain Niger Priest

Members of the Senate on Wednesday observed a one-minute silence in honour of the slain Niger priest, Isaac Achi, who was burnt to death in the Paikoro Local Government area in Niger State.

The lawmakers also called for the probe and arrest of the culprits.

This is coming two weeks after the gruesome murder of the priest.

Terrorists, in the early hours of Sunday, January 15, burnt the Catholic priest alive at his parish.

When the attackers could not gain access to the well-fortified building where the priest was living, they set it ablaze.

Achi, until his untimely death, was the Kafin Koro Deanery of the Minna Diocese of Niger State and the Reverend Father in charge of St Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kafin Koro.

The point of order was raised by the Niger-East lawmaker, Senator Sani Musa, who cited Orders 42 and 51 to seek the leave of the Senate to present a motion on the gruesome murder of Rev. Father Isaac Achi in Kaffinkoro town in the Psikoro local government area of Niger State.

On his part, the Senate president Ahmed Lawan condemned the heinous crime.

“The Senate condemned in strongest terms, the gruesome murder of Rev. Father Isaac Achi and other natives killed", Lawan said.
