It took the intervention of the Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Senator Ali Ndume to prevent the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from demolishing parts of the illegal shanties housing some Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the old Federal Secretariat, area one Abuja.

The senator, after a distress call from the owners of the structures, rushed down to the demolition site to prevail on the officials of the administration to spare the houses of the IDPs.

Ndume appealed for profiling of the IDPs to enable the government to know those genuinely displaced before the demolition.

The FCT Administration on Thursday, stormed the shanties located around the Secretariat accommodating the Ministeries of Interior and Trade and Investment to carry out mass demolition of illegal structures following the expiration of the one-month demolition notice issued.
