Senegal Lift First-Ever U-20 AFCON Title

Senegal

Senegal's Young Teranga Lions have made history by winning their first-ever Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy.

The team defeated their Gambian counterparts 2-0 in an exciting final at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.

Senegal had already made a strong impression in the tournament, winning all their matches without conceding a goal.

The Young Teranga Lions made a strong start in the final, with Sulaymane Faye scoring the opening goal just six minutes into the game with a header from a cross down the right channel.

The Gambian defence struggled to keep up with the Senegalese attackers, and Mamadou Camara doubled Senegal's lead 10 minutes into the second half with a well-placed corner kick.

Despite The Young Scorpions' best efforts, they were unable to break through Senegal's defence and mount a comeback.

Senegal continued to dominate possession, with Lamine Camara and Mamadou Camara pulling the strings for Malick Daf's side.

The victory for the Young Teranga Lions marks their first continental glory at this level and adds to Senegal's recent successes in other football competitions.

The team will now represent Africa at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, which will be held in Indonesia between May 20 and June 11.
