Serie A: Monza Upset Inter Milan With Late Goal From Caldiro

Promoted side Monza pulled off a shocking 1-0 upset against Serie A giants Inter Milan on Saturday, thanks to a late goal by defender Luca Caldirola.

Inter Milan, who are currently on track for their first Champions League semi-final appearance since 2010, suffered their fourth loss in their last five league games, slumping to fifth place in the table with 51 points from 30 games.

The match at San Siro saw both teams creating chances, with Inter forward Joaquin Correa coming close to scoring in the first half, only to be denied by Monza keeper Michele Di Gregorio.

Romelu Lukaku also had opportunities to put Inter ahead, but Monza's defence held firm.

In the 78th minute, Monza stunned Inter with Caldirola's close-range header from a corner, bouncing the ball off the ground into the top left corner of the net, giving Monza the lead.

Despite Inter's efforts to find an equalizer, including attempts by substitute Lautaro Martinez, Monza held on for the historic win.

Monza, who had previously held Inter to a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture in January, moved up to 12th place in the Serie A table with 38 points.

They will next host Fiorentina on April 23, while Inter Milan will travel to face 14th-placed Empoli in their quest to bounce back from the unexpected defeat.
