Serie A: Napoli Duo Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia Inspire Win Over Sassuolo In Title Race

Serie A: Napoli Duo Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia Inspire Win Over

Napoli took a significant stride towards securing their first Serie A title in over three decades with a convincing 2-0 victory over Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium on Friday night.

Napoli's two attacking stars, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen, were the architects of the win, both getting on the scoresheet to secure the victory for the visitors.

Kvaratskhelia broke the deadlock in the 11th minute with a brilliant solo run and a clinical finish, while Osimhen doubled their lead in the 33rd minute with a superb effort from an improbable angle.

Luciano Spalletti's men dominated proceedings and could have won by an even more significant margin, with Osimhen having already hit the post and Giovanni Simeone seeing a late goal ruled out for offside.

With the win, Napoli extended their lead at the top of the table to a commanding 18 points, leaving their nearest challengers, Inter Milan, with a daunting task in trying to keep pace with the runaway leaders.

Spalletti was pleased with his side's performance and singled out the second-half display for particular praise. However, the focus now turns to their Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday, and the Napoli boss is aware of the challenge that awaits his team.

Despite the loss, Sassuolo showed glimpses of quality and caused Napoli some problems throughout the game, hitting the post through Armand Lauriente in the first half.

Napoli fans will be relieved to hear that Osimhen's substitution towards the end of the game was purely precautionary, and the Nigerian forward is expected to be fit for their upcoming fixtures.
