Serie A Top Scorer

Serie A Top Scorer

After matchday 32, the Serie A goal-scoring chart has changed significantly and with players overtaking each other.

Capocannoniere is the award given to the Serie A top scorer and this year is the hottest race in 60 years.

It was last won by Fabio Quagliarella 2018/2019 and shared by both Mauro Icardi and Ciro Immobile 2017/2018

There have not been two different forwards with at least 28 goals in the opening 32 series A rounds since the1950s.

It was achieved by Istvan Nyers of Inter and Milan Gunnar Nordahl in 1950-1951 and later by Antonio Valentin (Inter) and Jose Altafini (Milan) in 1958-1959.

AllNews looks at the Top 5 scorers on the Italian Serie A Chart.

1. Ciro Immobile (Lazio)

The Italian international has scored 29 goals in the Italian top-flight competition managing 8 assists, his goals have helped Lazio placed well on the table at 2nd and trailing behind Juventus with 8 points with 6 games left in the competition.

He has won the Capocannoniere twice before after the 2013/2014 campaign and later shared with Argentine Forward Mauro Icardi 2017/2018 but this season he wants to claim it all to himself once more.

Lazio will have the opportunity of playing in the Champions League next season but the hope of challenging Juventus for the Scudetto could be dented after losing to Sassuolo in their last match at home.

Immobile came under some criticism after not scoring in two successive home games but he still leads the log with 29 goals in the competition.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo

The 35-year-old Portuguese player has established himself as one of the best players in the world with goal-scoring ability. He left Real Madrid 2017/2018 after some complication with the Madrid board and it took him some time to adjust to the life in Italy but he adjusted he did. He only managed 21 goals last season in the competition but this season he has exploded back to his very best. He has scored in their last 4 games which took him 2nd on the goal-scoring chart behind Ciro Immobile and could overtake him in the next game.

3. Romelu Lukaku

Belgium all-time scorer has arrived in Italy firing all cylinders with series of goals match after match. He is a big lad but can carry himself on the field brilliant with aerial balls and lots of poacher skills. His connection with Lautaro Martinez has helped push Antonio Conte's Inter Milan to top 4 on the series A table. If he presently 3rd on the goal-scoring chart with 20 goals. With 6 games left, he could increase that tally by the end of the Italian Serie A season.

4. Joao Pedro (Cagliari)

The Brazilian is a surprise on the list with 18 goals in the Serie A this season having notched just 8 goals in all competition last season. Now, he is ranked 4th on the table with likes of Ronaldo and could see his tally increase with the number of games left. He is the only midfielder in the top 5 which speaks more on his ability to score 18 goals from the midfield, a duty which does not fall on a midfielder even the deep-lying ones. Cagliari tied him down with a new contract till 2022 but we could see European Clubs coming for him in the winter transfer window because he possesses an ability which is rare among midfielders.

5. Fernando Muriel (Atalanta)

The Colombian can be regarded as a newbie at the top of the chart and also in the league having played for Sevilla and spent 6 months in Fiorentina between January to July playing 23 times in all competition, managing 9 goals and 2 assists. He then completed a transfer of £20M to Atalanta and has been on top form this season for the Italian side. He is the fifth on the chart with 17 goals and we could see him further up the table with Atalanta fighting for the Scudetto coupled with some Champions League football.

Others worthy of notes are:

Caputo Francesco 16 goals (Sassuolo)

Duvan Zapata 15 goals (Atalanta)

Ilicic 15 goals (Atalanta)

Dzeko 14 goals (Roma)

Belotti 14 goals (Torino)

Lautaro Martinez 12 goals (Internazionale)
