Seun Kuti Says African Culture Does Not Support Domestic Vio

Nigerian singer Seun Kuti has slammed men who claim to be African only when they want to domestically abuse their wives and children.

On his Instagram page on Wednesday, Kuti said that there is no place in the African culture that tolerates or encourages violence against women and children.

According to the 39-year-old youngest son of legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the proverbs; “spare the rod and spoil the child” and “a woman's place is in the kitchen” are all European Abrahamic proverbs that have no African equivalent.

Speaking further, Kuti said that most Africans are not African except in location and the language they speak.

He mentioned that they have neglected African culture in pursuit of Western ways of life but are quick to switch to an African when they are about to abuse their family.

“All these people that turn African just to beat their wives and children... there is no part of African culture that encourages violence against women and children.

"Spare the rod and spoil the child; a woman's place is in the kitchen are European Abrahamic proverbs. What is the African version?

“What is the African equivalent of these proverbs.

"Please tell me below, because una crase dey do press up!

"You aren’t African except in location! You don’t practice anything African except the small language u speak!

"Your holy land is Jerusalem and Mecca! Your most valuable possessions are you European thoughts and things!

"But as soon as u want to break your equally European wife and child, you claim african?

"Come close I want to ask u something, Are you mad?”
