Seven Luxurious Automobiles Made By African Manufacturers

Seven Luxurious Automobiles Made By African Manufacturers

The notion that luxurious cars can only be bought or manufactured outside of Africa is false. There are a good number of car manufacturing companies in Africa that are equally owned by Africans.

However, in almost all cases, Africans import their vehicles.

Since the majority of these vehicles are used, their import duties are high.

The African auto industry is, however, responding by producing dependable and reasonably priced automobiles that Africans can buy at a fair price while making sure these automobiles come with every luxury possible.

The history of the automobile in Africa is changing thanks to companies like Ghana's Kantanka and Nigeria's Innoson Motors.

Here are seven African-owned automobile companies changing the continent’s automobile narrative.

7. Wallyscar, Tunisia

Wallyscar was established in 2006 and is produced in La Marsa, Tunisia.

The company is renowned for producing 4X4s that are powerful, dependable, and affordable.

According to a report from 2014, the company reportedly sells more than 600 units annually, primarily in Africa and the Middle East.

Making its automobiles sporty, colourful, and environmentally friendly is one of the company's main goals.

6. Kiira Motors Corporation, Uganda

Unlike other automobile manufacturers in Africa, Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC) has a unique set of interests.

A hybrid electronic vehicle is something the Ugandan automobile manufacturer is interested in developing.

It was launched in 2014 by University of Makerere engineering students who took part in the Vehicle Design Summit, which was initiated by MIT students in 2006.

The Ugandan government assists the company.

KMC's line of cars includes the 40AH and 207V battery-bank capable Kayyoola Solar Bus, Kiira EV Smack, and Kiira EV POC.

The kind of vehicles made by Kiira could portend a new era for Uganda's auto industry.

5. Mobius Motors, Kenya

In 2010 Mobius Motors was established with the African market in mind.

Towards the end of 2020, the mobile company released the first batch of its economical cars.

To compete with the pre-owned cars that predominate the East African automotive market, the company uses simplified design concepts to create effective and affordable vehicles.

The cost of these cars built specifically with African roads in mind is around $10,000.

4. Birkin Cars, South Africa

The South African-based auto company, which is among the oldest in the sector, launched its operations in 1982.

The United States, Japan, and Europe are just a few of the countries where the car is sold.

Quality classic replicas by Birkin Cars, such as the SS3 Street Series and the CS3 Clubman Series, are well-known around the world.

3. Laraki Cars, Morocco

It was established in 1999 by Moroccan businessman Mohamed Laraki.

The company initially made yachts before switching to making opulent supercars.

It produced its first automobile, the Laraki Fulgura, in 2002.

The next car was Borac, followed by Epitome, and the company has continued to grow and evolve since then.

It sells its 2013 Laraki Epitome Concept for $2,000,000. Its V8 engine generates 1100 Horsepower (RPM), and its top speed is predicted to be 175 mph.

Larakis was listed as one of the most expensive cars in the world in 2015, costing more than $2 million each.

They are purely conceptual vehicles that are built specifically for each customer.

2. Kantanka Cars, Ghana

Dr Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka started the Kantaka Automobile Company in Ghana.

Both saloon and four-wheel drives are made by Kantanka. The company also sells SUVs, including the Nkunimdie and the Kantanka Opasuo.

Some of these cars made in Ghana are already being driven by some Africans, including some Ghanaians.

The Kantanka showrooms are where you can purchase vehicles.

The company also declared that it would soon start manufacturing electric vehicles.

1. Innoson Motors, Nigeria

Entrepreneur Innocent Chukwuma, who was born in Nigeria, established the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company. They are the first technology company in Nigeria to produce automobiles.

At least over 1000 cars made in Nigeria by Innoson have been produced for a price ranging from N4.5 to N7.5 million.

Due to the variety of its products, Innoson also receives support from the Nigerian government.

Innoson builds a variety of vehicles at their facility in Nnewi, Anambra, Nigeria, including pickup vans, SUVs, and buses.

Some of its models include the SUV-style Innoson G5, Innoson Fox, and Innoson Umu.

Nigeria and other African nations already use some of the Innoson vehicles.
