It is funny how we think we know our celebrities so well just because they are mostly on our screens or their voices blast through our speakers. However, there's so much we are not aware of, including how they got to where they are and what they have been through as human beings just like us.
In this light, below are seven things you probably did not know about Gospel artiste Sola Allyson, popularly called ‘Aunty Sola’.
This is one thing probably 80% of the singer’s fans do not know. The gospel minstrel who prefers to be referred to as a singer is a child of the popular Allysons of Ikorodu in Lagos State.
The singer revealed this during her 8th album (IRI) listening event in 2019. According to her, her great-great-grandparents were kingmakers. She further revealed that she was confused as to why she did not have it easy early on even as she was born into an influential family.
During the same event, the singer also disclosed that she was born out of wedlock. She included that her birth was unplanned and she just happened. The singer had in an earlier campus ministration mentioned that the situation surrounding her birth affected her childhood. She said she did not experience enough love as a family and this made her seek love outside her family.
Sola however encouraged those like her not to see that as a reason to live an indecent life, saying that even Jesus Christ was born out of wedlock.
Due to Sola’s childhood experiences, she had no choice but to take charge of her life very early. To achieve this, she became a backup singer at the young age of 13. The singer boasts of her tone being defined at the time and her being a backup singer to music veterans including Obesere, Pasuma, Stella Monye and Yinka Ayefele.
The minstrel during a ministration at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife revealed that at some point she had no place to call home. She took refuge in several parishes including The Celestial Church Of Christ, Olusesi Parish where she served as the lady keyboardist of the church.
During the same ministration mentioned earlier, the music minister also mentioned how she hawked ice water on the streets. She also said she worked as a maid for people. This exposed her to a different religion other than her Muslim background as she attended the same church as her bosses. Minister Sola revealed this while appreciating God for his faithfulness over her life.
As if her struggles as a child were not enough, Sola Allyson also faced persecution from so-called spiritual leaders. She explained how a prophet whose identity she concealed said nothing good could come out of her life. The prophet also compared her life to an empty tuber of yam and an empty pack of St Louis sugar. She also said another prophet told her to forget about getting married.
Minister Sola while ministering in a white garment church mentioned her father’s disapproval of her chosen career. The music graduate of The Polytechnic, Ibadan said her father wanted her to study law rather than music which she preferred. For this reason, not only did her father not pay her school fees, but he also viewed studying music as preparing to go into prostitution.
From the given, it is clear that minister Sola’s life is an expression of God’s favour and grace and the singer will stop at nothing in reiterating this wherever and whenever she gets the opportunity to do so.
