Shaw Tenders Apology To Man Utd Fans Over 7-0 Demolition

An apology from Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has been issued to fans of the club following a humiliating 7-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool handed United their biggest-ever league defeat in a high-profile Premier League fixture that turned out to be a ruthless exhibition match.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 43rd minute to put Liverpool in front just before the break.

His goal then opened the floodgates in the second half as the Reds scored six more goals.

Shaw accepted that his teammates are to blame for the demolition at Anfield while apologising to the fans.

The England international also admitted that the standards of the team have dropped since they won the Carabao Cup to end their six-year wait for a trophy.

"Out there on the pitch, I felt embarrassed for us players, for the fans who were supporting us and who were watching at home," he told MUTV.

"To watch that second half… I can only apologise for that, us, as players, have to own it, we have to stand up and accept that it was nowhere near good enough. It was completely unacceptable."

Shaw continued: "Our standards have clearly dropped since we won that trophy [Carabao Cup] and, in the last couple of games, we haven’t been our normal selves – we need to find the good things we were doing before and bring them back because this hurts a lot and it’s really unacceptable what we did in that second half.

"We showed no personality and no mentality.

"For a big team to come here, we need to do better."
