Shots Fired At Kano Police Headquarters

Shots Fired At Kano Police Headquarters

Gunmen on Friday fired shots at Zone 1 Police Headquarters in Kano.

Three vehicles filled with armed men shot sporadically at the building around noon.

The Police is yet to make formal statements on the happening, but security is being tightened along the headquarters at BUK road, ready to deter any major attack.

It is unclear if this could be a terror shot or another form of attack.

However, the Public Relations officer of the Zone, SP Abubakar Zayyanu Ambursa denied any form of attack on the headquarters, blaming an online platform for spreading false news.

SP Ambursa however did not explain the shots heard.

On January 20, 2012, Boko Haram fighters attacked the building, killing 185 people.

The latest attack could be one of the reasons Kano State Government banned tricycle operations after 10:00 pm to 6:00 am daily in the state.

Since the announcement on July 18, 2022, by the state commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba who cited threats to security as a reason for the ban, the Kano Road Safety Agency, KAROTA and the Police have been keeping constant patrols to arrest lawbreakers, though the operators have been cooperative.
