Simi Claps Back At Accent Critics [Video]

In a recent video shared on social media, award-winning Nigerian singer Simi addressed a particular issue that has been irking her—criticism regarding her accent.

The talented songstress, known for her soulful voice and candid personality, unapologetically expressed her thoughts on the matter and made it clear that she is not bothered by the opinions of others when it comes to how she speaks.

Simi started off by sharing her frustration, stating, “Y’all let me tell you something that gets on my nerves; when some come out here and say I’m forming accent.”

She then questioned whether she appeared like the kind of person who cares about how others perceive her way of speaking.

The singer went on to emphasize that she does not meticulously plan or strategize the way she uses her accent.

She challenged those who criticize her accent, questioning whether she sounds like she is struggling or putting excessive thought into her speech.

She stated that those who dislike her accent should simply keep scrolling.

“Do I really seem like the kind of person that would care how anybody feels about how I talk?

“Like I sit down and I plan ‘so this is how I will use this accent today’. I don’t give a fuck.

“Do I sound like I’m struggling when I’m talking? Or I’m thinking about it? If I talk like this, will you beat me? No, you can’t do nothing.
