Singapore Executes Second Person In Three Weeks For Cannabis Trafficking

Singapore Executes Second Person In Three Weeks For Cannabis

Singapore on Wednesday executed another individual convicted of drug trafficking, marking its second execution within a three-week period.

The 37-year-old was hanged at Changi Prison after a last-minute attempt to reopen his case was denied.

This follows the execution of another individual in April for a similar offence.

Singapore's stringent approach to drug-related crimes, including the death penalty for trafficking has drawn criticism from human rights activists and organizations.

The recent execution in Singapore has sparked outrage and renewed calls for the abolition of the death penalty in the country.

Advocacy groups, such as the Transformative Justice Collective, have highlighted concerns over the lack of due process and the severity of the punishment for drug offences.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in Singapore maintains that the death penalty is an essential component of its criminal justice system and plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety and security of the country.
