Sinner Upsets Alcaraz To Reach Miami Open Final

Jannik Sinner stunned top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the Miami Open semi-finals to power into the final having come from a set down.

The Italian beat the Spaniard 6-7 6-4 6-2 to set up a meeting with Russia's Daniil Medvedev in the final.

It was a scintillating encounter between the pair who treated the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium to another show of electric rivalry.

Alcaraz won the first set with a tiebreaker after coming back from 4-1 down in 117 minutes.

The Spanish teenager again came back from a 0-2 deficit to level the score in the second set and then led 4-3, but Sinner fought hard and played well to clinch the set in the end.

From 3-4 down in the second set, the Italian lost just two more games and walked away with a well-earned victory to end Alcaraz's brief return as world number one, with Novak Djokovic set to regain top spot on Monday.

"It means a lot. We both played a very, very high level of tennis again.

"I just tried my best," Sinner said after advancing to his second ATP Masters 1000 final, both in Miami.

"In the third set I saw him struggle a little bit for a couple of games so I tried to push there...

"We both tried to play very aggressive tennis and today it went my way so I'm very happy."

Sinner is yet to beat his next opponent Medvedev in five tries with their most recent meeting coming in the Rotterdam final in February, but remains optimistic of staging an upset in Sunday's final

"Different conditions than in Rotterdam. I'm very happy that I can face him in a final again," Sinner said, looking ahead to the matchup.

"The last one I lost obviously, but I'll try my best, I'll try to make some good changes like today against Carlos and let's see.

"I feel good on this court. I have very good memories and hopefully I can show some good tennis."
