Six Abducted Persons from Kebbi School Attack Regain Freedom

Five abducted persons and a teacher of the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Yawuri in Kebbi State have been freed from their abductors.

On Thursday, it was earlier reported that the bandits abducted several students and teachers.

Details of the release of the students and the teacher as well as that identity of the dead were still unknown as of the time of writing this report.

The Governor of the state, Atiku Bagudu, however, said that he will do his best to ensure the release and rescue of the remaining abducted students and teachers.

The attackers, who rode on motorcycles, were said to have stormed the school from the neighbouring Rijau forest in the early hours of Thursday.

They were said to have overpowered the mobile policemen guarding the school.

The state’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Nafiu Abubakar was unable to take his calls and could not respond to text messages forwarded to him at the time of filing this report.

Kidnapping students from their school has become rampant recently. On June 10, two lecturers and eight students were abducted by bandits at the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria. On April 29, four students of Capro Mission Secondary School located at Gana Ropp in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State were abducted. Few days before then, An unconfirmed number of students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, were kidnapped at gunpoint “by unknown persons”. This follows barely a week after about 20 students were abducted from Greenfield University in Kaduna. more than 300 persons have been reported kidnaped from their schools in the last six months.
