Six Iranian Guards Killed In Syrian Desert Attack

Six members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRG) were killed and more than 14 others injured in an armed attack in the Syrian desert on Saturday.

The AlWASL news site reported that the attack took place while the convoy of the guards was heading from Damascus International Airport' towards the Palmyra desert in the Homs countryside.

According to news agency, the convoy was made-up of 10 four-wheel-drive vehicles loaded with militants, in addition to 2 armoured vehicles and a vehicle loaded with weapons and ammunition.

The Middle East Monitor started that the armed militants targeted the convoy after it had crossed the city of Al-Dameer using machine guns and anti-aircraft guns, while clashes continued for about 20 minutes.

After killing six militants, including an Iranian field commander identified as Hajj Jabbar Abu Farshad, with over 14 members of the guard injured, the armed militants fled into the desert.
