Six Men In Court For Burning Down Police Station

On Friday, six men appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing and burning down a police station in Lagos.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, arson, and stealing they were accused of.

The defendants are identified as Tunde Abiodun, 32, Sodiq Tiamiyu, 22, Seun Olatokun, 27, Akeem Apena, 52, Olawunmi Lateef, 28, and Isah Lukeman, 24.

The Prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, disclosed to the court that the accused and some others, still at large, set ablaze the Pen Cinema Police Station in Agege area of Lagos on October 21 at about 5:30 pm during the #EndSARS protests.

Emuerhi added that the defendants stole chairs, tables, four television sets, five laptops, five motorcycles which are all property of the Nigeria Police Force.

He maintained that the offences were contrary to Sections 287(10), 341(a) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, Chief J.A Ajegun, the presiding Magistrate, granted each of the defendants N200, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till December 2 for mention.
