Microsoft has announced the release of Skype version 8.80 and it comes with the ability to make 911 calls, automatically detect and share users' locations with emergency operations in the US.
According to Microsoft, the new release supports emergency calls in the United States for both PC and Mobile
The disclaimer in the Skype support page stated that the app will only share the location of users who has devices that share location and are in a place where sharing is available for the feature to work if they dial 911 for the purpose of calling emergency responders to where they are.
The location-sharing is switched off by default but can be activated by clicking on the user's profile picture on Skype, go to Privacy under Settings to toggle on 911 emergency location sharing and can be switched off anytime a user pleases.
The new feature is currently available for Skype on Windows, Mac, Linux, the Web, Android, iPhone and iPad.
