Snapchat’s Food Scan Helps Identify Food, Recommends Recip

Snapchat has upgraded its in-app camera features to identify and recommend recipes based on the food it captures. The latest features functionality added to the app is called Food “Scan” which also allows users to identify plants and dog breeds and items of clothing.

When the Food Scan feature is activated, it will turn up recipes containing the item, as well as a link to the Wikipedia entry for the ingredient. The company has associated with allrecipes.com on the feature, which is expected to recognise more than 1,200 items and suggest more than 4,500 dishes.

Users are also reminded that the new feature is different from the one recognises packaged foods and gives nutritional information.

After a test was carried out, it was revealed that Food Scan was able to correctly identify a variety of products and recommend relevant recipes (including a persimmon bar recipe that looked intriguing).
