So-Safe Corps Apprehends Man For Abduction, Attempted Murder

A 21-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Idowu Adebayo is now in the detention of the Ogun State Police Command for the attempted rape and murder of Blessing John, a 17-year-old-girl.

According to a statement signed by Moruf Yusuf, Director of Information and Public Relations on behalf of State Commander Soji Ganzallo and made available to AllNews Nigeria, the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

"On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at about 1830hrs, a case of abduction and attempted murder of one 17-year-old Blessing John, "f" and a 21-year-old Idowu Adebayo, "m", was reported at Lisa/Oluke Divisional Headquarters by some residents of Ayegbe village, Lisa town, Ifo.

"In their statement, the victim, Blessing John, was sent by her mother to get her vegetables at Joju market, Sango Ota, Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area.

"The victim saw Idowu Adebayo, who was riding an Okada, stopped him and negotiated the fare to Joju market with him.

"The Okada rider took the girl from Abule Iroko via Itoki village to a bush in Ayegbe village and attempted to rape and kill her before she was rescued by some farmers, who heard her call for help and rushed to the scene, while So-Safe was contacted.

"The victim was rescued by the operation team of the Corps and the suspect was apprehended as well," the statement read.

Yusuf stated that the So-Safe Commander instructed that the crime scene be revisited as part of preliminary investigation and to ascertain that the scene is not a place of hibernation for miscreants.

"The Zonal Commander of the Corps was also instructed by Ganzallo to ensure no bush or forest is left uncombed in that axis," he added.

The suspect and the victim, Yusuf added, have been transferred to the Ifo Divisional Headquarters of the Nigeria Police for further investigation and likely prosecution.
