Social Media Bill: Buhari Killing Freedom Of Information Act Signed By Jonathan - Omokri

Social Media Bill: Buhari Killing Freedom Of Information Ac

Reno Omokri, a Former aide to the ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to the continued move by the Federal Government to regulate Social media in Nigeria.

Omokri who took to his Twitter page to react insinuated that Buhari was trying to kill the Freedom of Information act that Jonathan signed while he was president.

Sighting social media post by Lai Mohammed, Omokri further held that the Buhari led administration lacks the moral fabric to regulate social media.

"On May 27, 2011, ex-President @GEJonathan  signed the Freedom of Information Act into law, to guarantee free information and free speech. And now, in 2020, General @MBuhari  is seeking a law to regulate social media and strangulate free speech. How the tides have changed!

"On@January 18, 2016, Lai Mohammed claimed that ‘Between 2006 and 2013, 55 people stole a total of 1.34 trillion Naira in Nigeria”. That was not just a lie, it was an irresponsible lie. A person who can tell such lies lacks the moral fabric to regulate social media," Omokri tweeted.

Further advising the Buhari administration to regulate looting, Omokri wrote:

"Instead of regulating social media, Nigeria’s government would getter better returns on their regulatory authority if they regulate looting. I mean, Transparency International just announced that Nigeria has moved from 144 to 146 on the CPI. Evidently a case of aloota continua!."

It will be recalled that the motion to regulate social media became more intense after allegations that social media was used to convey fake news that triggered violence during the #ENDSARS protest.
