Social Media Users To Look Out For

Social Media Users To Look Out For

Social media is no doubt fun and entertaining; it, basically, is a part of people's day-to-day living, but it is also annoying, and what makes it annoying? Its users.

According to statistics, the average time spent on social media and messaging platforms globally is 144 minutes (2 hours and 24 minutes), and a lot of people spend that amount of time, if not double, annoying other users.

Attention seekers: They are rife on social media platforms, if you are a regular (sometimes you don’t even have to be) user of any social media platform, you will see posts from people who are desperately seeking the attention of other users, you might recognize them by these:

- What did you hear about light skinned people?
- My man said I was fat so here is a pic of my fat but fit and sexy body, compliment me.
- What did you hear about people with big foreheads.

The African cultural values torchbearers: These ones are patrons of the African societal values, one that must not diminish with Western trends that are recklessly being soaked up by African renegades.  You will never find them hewing to the fad of the day. At the forefront of their everyday consciousness is the African ideology that must be upheld, denouncing technological advancements (that they are users of) that have come to erode our principles, relegating the work of pounding yam and the grinding of pepper on stones to machines does not conform to the African identity, and this is unacceptable. Many times, these people are mere attention seekers and are intellectually dishonest. You can identify them with these statements:

- Women today cannot even cook with N300 when our mothers used to cook with less.
- (Posts a picture of a woman cooking with firewood) Only real queens still do this.

People who always share their opinion on everything, even on things they have no idea about:  Our very knowledgeable armchair critics. They know everything about practically everything. You dare not counter their opinions ‘cause they will drag you down their rabbit hole of sheer ignorance, one that they display with such brazen confidence.

Effusive sharers
-Look at this very interesting event that I cannot wait to happen!! Who cares? Wait in silence: I know that sometimes we want to share our successes with people, but really, sit down, ask yourself, “Do I really have to?” It usually goes like this, “So I did this amazing thing today, and I cannot wait to see what happens.” Okay, that’s cool, Sammy, but do we have to know about it?

Photos to Infinity: People in this category share photos from one event throughout the day. This happens mostly on Instagram. Pictures are uploaded every two minutes, sometimes different poses and a subtle background change. Sometimes I wonder if they are trying to pass a message across, one that we failed to see in the first five photos of them in from of the blue and white cars on that neatly tarred road just where that very shiny building with a fancy composition situates.

People who like their own posts. Narcissistic much? It’s hard to mind my business here, really, I just need to ask again, narcissistic much? What would cause me to post an event, a photo, or anything and, after three minutes (I assume they wait this long for the “magic” to happen) click on the like icon? These people keep blurring the lines between self-love and self-obsession (and, no, this isn’t always a good thing).

The "I woke up like this" gang. Yes, we know, we are miserable beings and you have it all together, DO NOT RUB IT IN OUR FACES! Thank you!

PS: This is from an introvert who is probably just hating.
