Sokoto: ₦2.71 Million Donated At Armed Forces Remembrance

More than 27.1 million Naira was collected at the launch of the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance emblem on Thursday in Sokoto.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State while launching the emblem urged Nigerians to always look after the families of the fallen heroes in the country.

He said the fallen heroes and those who survived, after defending their country, would continue to be fondly remembered for their diligence and selfless service to the nation, pointing out that Nigerian Army, over the decades, has contributed immensely to the stability of the country.

According to the Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the Governor, Muhammad Bello, the state government led donors at the event with the donation with 10 million Naira, other functionaries of the state including members of the executive council donated 1.3 million Naira, the 23 local governmen councils of the state collectively donated 2.3 million Naira, the Sokoto state House of Assembly (SOHA), donated 1 million Naira, while Permanent Secretaries and Directors -General gave 1.6 million Naira to the course.

Others who donated include the Sultanate Council of Sokoto with a donation of ₦500,000, while the chief launcher, Alhaji Kabiru Tafida donated ₦5 million followed by Mijirya Construction Company with a two million Naira donation., and BUA Group ₦1 million.

Tambuwal who also commended the federal government for its proclamation of bandits as terrorists, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to continue to give all the necessary support to the security agents in order to address the security challenges in the state and the country in general. He suggested that more personnel should be deployed with improved welfare and provision of modern technology of equipments among others.

The Governor commended the various security agencies trying to sustain peace, unity and harmonious co-existence among the people in the state, adding that the government of Sokoto state, in collaboration with the security agencies, has been working round-the-clock to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.

He, therefore, urged the general public, irrespective of their religion or political differencies, to continue to give maximum support to the authorities, in addressing the challenges of insecurity in the state and the country at large.
