Sokoto Government, Sultanate React To Burning Of Student Over Blasphemous Remarks

Sokoto Government, Sultanate React To Burning Of Student Ove

Deborah Yakubu

The Sokoto State Government has promised to investigate and take appropriate action over the death of a student at the Shehu Shagari College of Education in the state for uttering insultive comments against the Prophet of Islam.

In an audio obtained by AllNews Nigeria, Deborah Yakubu was apparently frustrated that some Muslim students in the Whatsapp group were sending messages related to Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The late student who spoke in Hausa opened her audio message with "holy ghost fire", adding, "Nothing will happen to us, this group was not created for you to be sending nonsense stuff, it was created for us to get past Q (slang for past exam question papers).

"If there is a test or if there is an assignment to be sent, not all the nonsense stuff..."

She then used cursative language against the Prophet, PBUH.

In the audio, a friend to Deborah Yakubu can be heard in the background advising her against sending it to the group.

According to our sources, this angered some of the students who resorted to violence instead of reporting to the authorities.

In a statement signed by the Sokoto State Commissioner of Information, Isa Bajini Galadanchi, the State Govenor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal ordered security agencies to conduct a swift and comprehensive investigation into those involved in the unfortunate and avoidable incidence for action to be taken soon.

It called for calm in the state to allow security operatives carry a quick investigation on Deborah's death.

Also reacting, the Sultanate, said it is dismayed by the unfortunate incidence that led to the loss of live of the female student.

It also condemned the act and called for swift justice for the young lady.

A statement signed by the Sultanate's Secretary, Sa'idu Muhammad Maccido, on Thursday called for calm as authorities continue to investigate the sad occurence.
