Sokoto Governor Vows To Pay Outstanding Salaries Of Visiting

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has assured to offset the outstanding salaries and allowances of visiting lecturers at the state university.

The Governor also vowed to cooperate with the management of the university to enhance education in the state.

Sokoto made this known while addressing the management of Sokoto State University, led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashir Garba, who paid him a courtesy visit after he assumed office as the State Governor.

“My administration will always provide a conducive atmosphere for the school to continue to excel”

The governor, however, promised to have a one-on-one discussion with the vice-chancellor of the university on the best way forward to address the outside salaries and allowances of both the visiting lecturers and sabbatical staff.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Bashir Garba, congratulated the governor for emerging as the governor of the state and for obtaining the highest educational qualifications of a doctorate degree from Nasarawa State University.

According to the VC,  Sokoto State University, which was established about 10 years ago with about 800 students, now has a population of about 9,000 registered students.

“The school started with three facilities and 23 programmes but now boasts four faculties with 35 undergraduate studies.

“The school also currently has a total of 39 postgraduate programmes with about 400 pioneer students.

“Sokoto State University is in the second stage of development as we just completed the building of two faculties of Engineering and that of Agriculture science with another two faculties building at the advance stage of completion,” he said.

Garba requested the establishment of two new additional faculties to bridge the existing gap caused by lack of development in both engineering and technology in the state.
