Somalia’s President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, has appointed Mohamed Hussein Roble as the new Prime Minister to replace former Prime Minister Hassan Khaire, who was removed in a no-confidence vote on July 25.
Roble, a political newcomer, studied Civil Engineering and has previously worked for a United Nations Agency, International Labour Organisation.
In a statement released by Villa Somalia’s media office on Thursday night, Farmajo nudged Roble to make it a top priority in forming a cabinet that is capable of handling all vital national services.
“I expect the new prime minister to form a government that can facilitate the elections as well as advancing the achievements in spheres like security, reorganization of the armed forces, development of the economic infrastructure, expansion of public service delivery and overcoming the challenges posed by terrorism and corruption,” he stated.
Farmaajo is likely to compete against at least two other former presidents in running for a second term as Somali president.
