Sony has launched a PlayStation 5 beta programme ahead of the console’s next major system update, scheduled for later this year, and it’s looking for users to try the upcoming features.
The company announced that it is available for users who are 18 years and above and signups are limited to PS5 owners in the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, and France
Selected users will receive an email with info on how to download the beta firmware and will automatically be added to the pool of future potential beta participants, so they don’t have to register again.
Since this is a beta program, there’s always the chance of running into bugs with the firmware. Users can restore their consoles to the released version before the end of the beta program, Engadget stated.
Sony will reveal more details about the features that beta testers will get to try in the coming weeks. Here’s hoping they include the M.2 SSD storage expansion slot switching on at long last.
Although this is the first time Sony is running a public test of the PS5 system software, console firmware beta programs aren't exactly new. The PS4 had one, and Microsoft has been running the Xbox Insider Program for years.
