A security company owner was arrested for having hijacked vehicles used in an attempted cash-in-transit robbery.

On Friday, January 9, 2023, a 45-year-old owner of a security firm is set to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court for the possession of hijacked vehicles that were used in the attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery that occurred on Tuesday close to Boipatong.

An attempted CIT robbery occurred on Frikie Meyer Street, facing Sebokeng, early on Wednesday, 4 January.

According to reports, a charcoal Mercedes Benz attacked a G4S armoured vehicle twice from behind.

The motorist went off the road and into some surrounding shrubs. The armoured truck was allegedly shot at.

The guards' firearms were confiscated. The suspects then attempted but failed, to ignite explosives inside the armoured truck.

They fled the area in several cars, empty-handed.

A crack squad commanded by the Hawks' Serious Organised Crime, Sedibeng Crime Intelligence, Tactical Response Team, and K9 Unit was formed to respond to the crime. 

The team pounced on an address on Fowler Street in Vanderbijlpark.

Two of the suspected getaway vehicles, a white Audi A3 and a blue Hyundai Tucson, were located at the property.

As a consequence of the extra investigation, six 9mm pistols, bulletproof vests, and fluorescent jackets were seized.

Major General Ebrahim Kadwa, the Hawks' province commander for Gauteng, lauded the investigative team's tenacity and welcomed the arrest.

Kadwa, the Gauteng Provincial Head of the Hawks, has hailed the arrest and praised the investigating team for their tireless efforts.
