A woman police officer was shot while on duty in a satellite police station in the Free State of South Africa on Wednesday morning, June 7, 2023.
At about 1:30 a.m., three unknown balaclava-clad males entered the Masilo Satellite Police Station and opened fire on the 35-year-old Constable.
The suspects fled when the policewoman returned fire. She was shot in the stomach and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“The member was taken to a hospital. A case of attempted murder has been registered for further investigation,” said Free State Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng.
Thakeng added that residents are encouraged to come forward with any information about the shooting incident.
