The South African man was arrested after his wife’s body was discovered in a water-fill pit toilet a day after she withdrew her case of domestic violence.
The gruesome discovery was made on Saturday, January 28, 2023.
The pair allegedly had a poor relationship, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The man was detained after the victim filed a domestic abuse complaint against him.
The man was released on bail and was scheduled to appear in Thohoyandou Magistrate Court next week.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the woman appeared in court on Friday, January 27, 2023, and withdrew her complaint.
On Saturday morning, the suspect reportedly contacted police to say that he couldn't find his wife but was startled to find her dead in the pit toilet hole in their yard.
“Preliminary probe conducted by the Police at the scene led to the arrest of the suspect on a charge of murder,” Mojapelo said.
