South East Youth Leaders Commend Judiciary Over Release Of C

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the umbrella body of all the youth organizations in the South East zone, has commended the judiciary for the unconditional release of the spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere. 

The spokesperson of CUPP  was arrested allegedly based on the instigation by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, AllNews reports.

However, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Bwari on Monday granted him an unconditional release

Reacting to his release, COSEYL, in a statement signed by its President-General, Hon. Goodluck Ibem and the Secretary-General, Comrade Kanice Igwe, described the decision to free him as "a landmark achievement for the nation's democracy."

The statement read: "We the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the umbrella body of all the youth organizations in the South East zone commend the judiciary and the Abuja Federal High Court presided by Justice Othman Musa for standing on the path of justice. The unconditional release of the spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere by the court is a landmark achievement for the nation's democracy. 

"The judiciary has again proved itself strong in the protection of democracy and the rule of law in the country. The court order granting the unconditional release of the spokesman of the CUPP is a testimony that the judiciary has remained fair in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities. 

"We appreciate the judiciary for their moral and professional courage to uphold justice. Ugochinyere's release is a victory for decency, for patriotism and respect for the rule of law. They judiciary have proved that, there are the survival of our democracy and the last hope of the common man. 

"We call on Nigerians not to lose hope in the judiciary no matter the level of attacks on judiciary officers from some powerful quarters. 

"No matter the level of intimidation by some powerful forces,  there are resilient judiciary officers who would always enthrone the rule of law in the country. 

"The unconditional release of Ugochinyere is a clear testament that light will always prevail over darkness. 

"We urge the CUPP spokesman not to be deterred by his recent ugly experience as these are one of the sacrifice of defending the principles of democracy. We encourage him to continue in his determination to defend the good people of Nigeria who have been bartered tyranny and dictatorship." 

COSEYL had threatened to mobilise two million Nigerians to occupy the streets, roads lawfully in protest to demand his unconditional release.
