South Korea Truckers Set To Strike

South Korea said on Wednesday it would consider deploying military trucks for urgent transport as it prepares for a planned strike by truckers.

The nationwide strike by trucker unions would be the second in less than six months to disrupt manufacturing and fuel supplies in the country.

Land Minister Won Hee-ryong said that the government would consider deploying military trucks to areas needed for urgent transport.

He also threatened to suspend the licenses of striking drivers if the walkout was prolonged.

He said in a statement; “I am asking the Cargo Truckers Solidarity Union to withdraw the plan to strike now”, adding that he is open to communications with the union to minimize the damage.

Also, the Korea International Trade Association said on Wednesday that it has created a task force to handle any disruptions and minimize trade damage as to the result of the strike.
