South-West PDP Affirms Suspension Of Lagos Secretary, Others

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West has affirmed the suspension of three members of the Lagos State Executive Committee for alleged anti-party activities.

The trio of Muiz Shodipe, Taofik Gani and Nurudeen Adewale, who were the party’s state secretary, publicity secretary and ex-officio member respectively were suspended last year December.

They were accused of “consistently and flagrantly breaching major provisions of the party’s constitution and have been found to have involved themselves in anti-party activities which could cause disunity among the party faithful.”

The South-West PDP, in a letter by Secretary of the Zonal Caretaker Committee,  Hon.  Daisi Akintan, dated March 13, 2021, and addressed to the National Chairman of the party,  Prince Uche Secondus, said it found that the process towards the suspension of the Lagos State Secretary, Publicity Secretary and an ex-officio member was in compliance with the constitution of the party.

The letter titled; "RE: Notification and request for the Executive/implementation of the report of the state disciplinary committee of the Lagos PDP on the suspended state officers." reads thus;  "The Southwest Zonal caretaker committee of our great party, PDP, is in receipt of the above subject matter with respect to the suspension of some officers of our party in Lagos state. 

"We have carefully perused the report of the disciplinary committee and find the same to be in strict compliance with the constitution of our Party,  2017 as amended.

"Part VII of our party constitution gives our committee the power to harmonize, co-coordinate and review all activities of the party within our zone.

"In the light of the above, and having found that the process towards the suspension of the Lagos state secretary - Mr Muiz Dosunmu; State Publicity Secretary- Barr Taofik Gani and Ex Officio Member - Mr Nurudeen Adewale, was in compliance with the constitution of our party,  hereby adopts the decision to suspend the erring officers of our party in Lagos state."

It should be recalled that 35 State Exco members voted in favour of the decision to suspend the three State EXCO members while ten members declined to vote.

Also present at the meeting then were 18 out of 20 PDP local government chairmen who also voted in favour of the decision, with the chairman of Eti-Osa abstaining while the chairmanship seat of Lagos Mainland is vacant.
