Southampton Halt Chelsea's Winning Streak At 5

Southampton Halt Chelsea's Winning Streak At 5

Southampton applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding against Chelsea with Takumi Minamino's superb finish but Thomas Tuchel side managed to salvage a point halting their winning streak at 5 games in the competition.

The saints had only managed one win from their last 5 games in the English premier league including a 9-0 loss to Manchester United.

Tuchel's side were given an early scare by Liverpool loanee, Minamino when he broke through their defence getting on the end of a slide rule pass from Redmond leaving him one on one with Mendy, held his composure as he took Caesar Azpilicueta out with a dribble before tucking the ball into the net.

The first half ended 1-0.

Mason Mount got the leveller in the second half for Chelsea to get at least a point from the game.

Danny Ings dropped back to assist with the defending but made a wrong tackle on Mount and the referee pointed to the spot.

In the absence of Jorginho, Mount took the penalty with a little drop of his shoulder to send McCarthy the wrong way and the ball another.

Chelsea could not move any further at the top of the table even if they had got a win with least of the top three with 46 -- Leicester City.

A draw kept Chelsea on the trail and Southampton were able to manage a point to stop their fall off the top 10.

Hansenhuttl's side were part of the early pacesetter at the top of the table in the first half of the season but now have fallen off order.

They travel next to Leeds United while Chelsea will face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA champions league match in midweek.
