Nigerians on social media are furious at the spate of attacks on innocent civilians witnessed in Southern Kaduna, North-West Nigeria.
AllNews reports that from May 19 to 24, assailants attacked and killed at least five villagers in Idazau, Etissi, Bakin Kogi, Dutsen Gora, UN Gora, Pushu Kallah and Magunguna, displacing others within seven communities situated in the Southern Kaduna axis.
In the process, they were also said to have injured 78, destroying 607 houses and rustling 231 cows.
At least 51 people are also reported missing from these attacks.
Locals say they are afraid to go back to their homes and claim the corpses of others currently unaccounted for and presumed dead because their villages were still occupied by the attackers.
Churches such as the Catholic Church in Idazau, ECWA in Etiissi, ECWA in Bakin Kogi as well as ECWA in Magunguna were also said to be razed to the ground during the attacks.
It would be recalled that Senator Danjuma La’ah, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District had on Monday accused Governor Nasir El- Rufai of not cooperating with him in his move to end the killings.
The senator said the killing of his people in their homes while adhering strictly to the stay at home order by the Federal and State governments following the outbreak of the Coronavirus disease (COVID- 19), means they are "under the bondage of terrorists".
Furthermore, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart accused the Nigerian military and other security agencies of abandoning his people when the people really needed their attention.
"Honestly, the wanton killings and massive property destruction is uncalled for," Senator La’ah said to journalists in Abuja.
"It is even getting worse during this period of lockdown because the bandits are still moving about, killing innocent souls in my area, who obey government directive to stay indoors.
"I and my colleagues in the House of Representatives will sit down and think of the way forward and ask our people to henceforth defend themselves.
"I said it the last time that my people should defend themselves. I thought that by now, we would have overcome them, but the attacks continue and my people are always the victims.
"I expect the military, the police, and other security agencies to have come to our aid and protect us, but it is not happening.
“I am just not comfortable with what is happening in Southern Kaduna.
"The development has demoralised my activities as a Senator who is representing the area. It makes me feel as if I am not a stakeholder in the state.
"I have done all it takes as the representative of Kaduna South Senatorial District in the National Assembly to make sure that I fight to the last, to protect my indigenes and deliver them from all forms of banditry leading to their deaths always.
"A single tree can never stand in the forest. Every other person thinks I am making unnecessary noise but definitely what is happening is not the best.
"Had it been that we are on the same page with the governor, the situation wouldn’t have gone worse like what we have now.
"Unfortunately, everybody minds his business. The governor is not looking up towards what I’m trying to achieve in that regard.
"Everybody resident in Kaduna South is my own constituent irrespective of tribe or religion.”

It is devilish to tag the ongoing mass murder in Southern Kaduna as Farmers herders clashes or reprisals.

From Southern Kaduna to Benue, to Plateau and Zamfara are families in despair and fear. The governors in these states are not doing their jobs as Chief Security Officers. There is no development without security. Increasing IGRs mean nothing when your people are getting killed.

The endless attacks in Southern Kaduna are condemnable. No land, or revenge or whatever it is, is a good enough justification for the continuous slaughter of innocent souls. This sort of barbaric attacks on villages and communities should have been a thing of the past.
