Sowore, Four Others To Spend 24Hrs In Kuje Prison For Protesting On New Year's Eve

The Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore and four other activists arrested for protesting in Abuja at the new year's eve of 2021 will be spending 24 hours in Kuje correctional centre, Abuja.

This is coming after a Magistrate court in Abuja directed that Sowore and the other activists be remanded pending the hearing of their bail application which is billed for the 5th of January 2021.

AllNews recalls that Sowore was arrested on New Year's eve alongside four other activists for protesting in Abuja.

They were however charged to court on three charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and attempting to incite others.

Despite pleading not guilty to the three count charges, the magistrate court remanded Sowore and the other activists in Kuje prison pending the time that their bail application will be heard.

Reacting to the court ruling, Sowore who was optimistic that there will be a revolution in 2021 wrote: 

“We have been sent to the infamous Kuje Prison for the next 24 hours while they plot their next moves. But we are very resolute and convinced that this year will be different for the tyrant! #RevolutionNow."

Sowore had earlier decried the treatment meted on him and the other protesters by the police.

Further stating that he is undaunted until full liberation is attained Sowore wrote:

“We are currently at the Magistrate court n Wuse Zone 2 with a broken nose. Police want us sent to prison after five days in cruel detention.

“Just rest assured we are solid and undaunted until full liberation is attained! # RevolutionNow,” he said.

Recall that Aisha Yesufu, one of the front-liners of the #EndSARS protest had earlier slammed President Muhammadu Buhari following the arrest of Sowore on New year's eve.

According to her, Sowore had the right to protest.
