Sowore's Arrest An Act Of Impunity By Buhari Govt - Northern

The Coalition of Northern  Group (CNG) has stated that the recent arrest and detention of the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore is an act of impunity.

Stating this while appearing on a program on Channels TV,  Sulaiman Abdulazeez, the spokesperson of CNG said that the President Buhari led administration was very intolerant of opposition.

According to the spokesperson, the arrest was against the fundamental human right of the publisher.

Further pointing out that the arrest was uncalled for as he had not committed an offense that warrants his arrest, Adbulazeez said:

“To attempt to stop someone from associating freely, from enjoying his right to freedom of association or freedom of movement is totalitarian,” the spokesman of the CNG, Sulaiman Abdulazeez, said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday. “It is an attempt to suppress voices of dissent. This government has grown increasingly intolerant of opposition or criticism.”

“You can only be arrested when you commit an offence and you have to establish an offence first before charging a person.

“We are not aware that there is any statue that has barred people, four people, from coming together for a candlelight celebration. Even if there is, that is ultra vires.”

AllNews recalls that the activist was arrested alongside four others for protesting on the street of Abuja on new year's eve.

Sowore was later remanded in Kuje prison by the magistate court in Anuja pending the time that the court will hear his bail application.
