Determined to restore peace to Ogun State, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has ensured the arrests of 22 cultists within 48 hours.
The suspects were mainly members of the two leading groups, Aye and Eiye, whose recurring supremacy face-offs had painted the state in a bad light.
Bankole had over the weekend, set up a special squad, headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations and ordered the quashing of all cult-related activities as well as arresting all known members.
It was gathered from a press statement issued by the command that, no fewer than 22 suspects are currently in its net.
In the statement, e-signed by the Command's spokesman (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the arrests were made within 24 hours of the formation of the special squad, even as the CP has directed the squad to take the onslaught to their doorsteps.
The arrests according to the Ogun police spokesperson were made when the Squad stormed their hideouts at Maya's in Lafenwa and Oju Ogbara in the Sapon area of Abeokuta.
"Some of the suspects were also apprehended in Sagamu, during a similar operation carried out by the squad", Oyeyemi said.
"All the suspects are currently being investigated to ascertain their roles in the cult war that engulfed the state recently which claimed the life of some cult members."
Meanwhile, according to the statement, "the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has appealed to members of the public to always cooperate with the police by giving them necessary information that would enhance their operation.
