'Spider-Man No Way Home': How Marvel's Upcoming Film Crashed

Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel's latest superhero flick crashed box office sites when the clock struck midnight on Monday, November 29, as cinemagoers rushed to get tickets to see the blockbuster.

Starring Tom HollandBenedict Cumberbatch, and Zendaya in lead roles, the third Spidey film from Sony and Marvel will see the titular hero confront villains from other alternate worlds as he tries to balance the chaos that follows his identity being revealed to the world.

CNBC reports that the film crashing box office sites is something that hasn't happened since the COVID-19 pandemic, something that experts say indicates a bright future for the movie theater industry.

Shan Robbins, the Chief Analyst at BoxOffice.com, had this to say: "There are different tiers of intense fan demand when it comes to box office pre-sales, and this film is clearly showing it belongs near the top with a select few others.

"For anyone who doubted the communal draw of the theatrical experience over the past two years, look to this enthusiasm for ‘Spider-Man’ as a major inflection point during the box office recovery period and the sign of a bright future ahead.”

According to box office analysts, Spider-Mna: No Way Home could make more than $100 million when it debuts in December, and the high ticket demand is even more encouraging for its opening.

Paul Dergarabedian, the Senior Media Analyst at Comscore, stated, "It would be entirely fitting that a Spider-Man movie could potentially be the first pandemic-era release to break the $100 million opening weekend mark."

Speaking further, Dergarabedian noted that Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002) was the first film in the history of cinema to open to over $100 million at the box office.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will arrive in cinemas in the US on December 17, 2021. The trailer is available for viewing below.
