SSANU Nullifies House Of Reps Education Summit Over Exclusio

The Senior Staff Union of Universities (SSANU) has nullified the education summit organised by the office of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, arguing that relevant stakeholders in the university were not involved.

The House of Representatives in November held a National Summit on Tertiary Education Reform, to seek solutions to the challenges of tertiary education in Nigeria.

The position of SSANU on the summit was expressed in a communique issued at the end of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Calabar, Cross River State and signed by its National President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim.

The NEC of the union described the action as disrespectful, rejecting every resolution reached at the summit which it called a nullity.

“The National Executive Council (NEC) in session observes with serious concern the ill-advised decision of the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives on this refusal to invite SSANU, a distinguished Union and undeniably major and critical stakeholder in the University system to the recently held Education Summit organized by the Office of the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.

“This action is not only disrespectful; it is a recipe for instability in the University system.

"Consequently, NEC resolved that the resolutions reached at that Summit are a nullity and stand rejected by SSANU since there was no input from her,” the communique read.
