Sterling Bank Plc has partnered with the Lagos State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide free Wi-Fi service at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos State.
This collaboration was necessitated by the urgent need to help curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus ravaging the world.
According to information gathered, the bank is to assist the Lagos State Port Health Authority and the Federal Ministry of Aviation in upgrading the airport facilities with the installation of a free Wi-Fi connection and additional air conditioning units for arriving passengers.
International passengers disembarking on the tarmac will get an upgrade from what they are accustomed to in the past.
In a statement issued by the bank, Obinna Ukachukwu, Divisional Head, Health and Education Sectors of Sterling Bank, said, "The installations are to welcome arriving travelers comfortably and allow passengers to easily book the necessary COVID-19 tests on arrival from the comfort of their devices.
"This is in conjunction with the Lagos State Port Health Authority, the Lagos State Ministry of Health, and with the blessing of the Federal Ministry of Aviation."
He added that this collaboration was not only strategic but also part of the banks’ corporate social responsibility.
Ukachukwu emphasized that the bank will continue to play a front-line role in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus by not only providing mobile facilities but also support with the provision of wifi facilities for the comfort of inbound passengers.
